Kevin & I are very pleased to announce the arrival of Griffin's little
ones with Bianca & Sophie. Bianca & Sophie are both resting and are very attentive and wonderful moms. For Kevin and I, we raise our newborns in our master bedroom and lets just say things are cozy right now. Bianca and Sophie are best friends and do everything together - even this.
We would like to congratulate our new LillyBits families who have patiently awaited the arrival of Bianca & Sophie's puppies. We do have puppies available from both litters and we are expecting amazing coats, cute faces and sweet temperaments just like their parents. Please feel free to contact us for more informaton on selecting one of Bianca or Sophie's puppies as your next family member.
Cheers,
Heather

Austin the puppy - available to a new home!
Happy New Year!
January 3, 2009
Hard to believe I haven't updated the news page since last year in 2008 :) Okay - I am guilty of loving a corny joke. Honestly, I crack myself up with them. In fact I am reminded regularly by my teenagers that I only crack myself up... it's hard being so uncool!
If this is your first time visiting take a look at the archives of the news page - it is loaded with fun pictures and hopefully gives you a peek into LillyBits.
Maggie & Jody's puppies are just turning five weeks old and are really beginning to be little dogs! After puppy choosing week came to a close - we have little Austin (the puppy) available to a new home. Let us know if you think he may be a good fit for your next family member. You can see more detailed information on Austin in Jody's Nursery.
Today the Smith family came by the house to visit with little Jasper and they took some great pictures of my Grandson playing with Maggie's puppies. Thank you for sending them Donna, they are precious. Austin (the baby) is just turning four months old and he loves the adult dogs and smiles especially for Sophie and Gracie. This afternoon was the first time he was able to play with the pups & they loved him! Lots of smiles from him and kisses from the puppies.
Cheers,
Heather
P.S. Jody's puppies have updated pictures!

Griffin's Big Week Away...
January 14, 2009
Griffin just got back home from his informal therapy dog assignment with Gary & Juelle. You can see from the pictures above that Griffin was loving his work! He stayed in a beautiful condo walking distance to downtown Kirkland. The key word for Griffin: 'walking distance' and boy did he enjoy his walks. He spent his days at Gary's feet in the office and his evenings sleeping on floor in his own special bed beside Gary & Juelle. Griffin made friends with the neighbors at the condominium and even prompted a few folks to log on and see what LillyBits.com is all about.
We really missed Griffin at home and our whole family waited with anticipation for his arrival back home from his week away. We would like to thank Gary and Juelle for taking such great care of Griffin. We would also like to thank Griffin for taking great care of Gary and Juelle. We hope that Griffin's sweet, affectionate and attentive nature was just what the doctor ordered.
Griffin will be a father sometime around Valentines Day and we hope his little ones turn out just like him! Griffin, you really are such a good boy, you make us proud!
Cheers,
Heather

Crate training begins. The look of disbelief on their faces was priceless.
Maddie still can't believe that I actually shut the crate door.
Everyone is settled down and tucked in - Good night puppies.
Crate Training
January 22, 2009
The time for Maggie & Jody's puppies to head to their forever families is fast approaching. The puppies are familiar with their crate as it has been their little den since before their eyes were open. Last night was the first night they slept in the crate with the door closed. There were some whimpers to begin with but soon each puppy quieted down. I set my alarm to let them out for potty in the wee hours of the morning and each night this week I will set my alarm a little later in the morning. Our first night practicing how to 'hold it' went well with no accidents in our little den.
Gracie's puppies are beginning to open their eyes and we will be spending the next couple days getting individual pictures posted. Everyone is so healthy and fat! Hard to believe they will start their litter box training next week :) Time flies.
Cheers,
Heather

Homeward Bound
An exciting and busy week with LillyBits preparing the puppies to head off on their new life with their families. New busy LillyBits families preparing for their pups homecomings and first days. Both Maggie & Jody's puppies have started on their new adventure. We still have Addy & Maddie here and we are enjoying our extra week with them :)
We have begun puppy selection on Pebble's and Gracie's puppies and we will keep the site up to date when a puppy has been chosen.
Can you believe it is February already? Geez, it seems like it was just the beginning of the New Year and now boom February.
I just wanted to say a final congratulations to our new LillyBits families. What a blessing to have such wonderful homes.
Enjoy our pictures ~ they are just a few of the families that were able to pick up their puppy from us in person.
Cheers,
Heather

Griffin's Photo Montage
The last week and a half has been eventful but fun. Most of the families who have chosen a Gracie puppy came by the house to visit with their new furry family member. It is rewarding for us to watch the new families get to know their puppy and their delight at each cute nuance their little one shows off. Gracie's puppies will be heading home in less than a week now. Of course there are lots of questions as the time gets near and we want everyone to feel prepared to bring home their new pup.
Bianca & Sophie have really fallen into a groove of raising their puppies together and still seem to enjoy having each other next to them. Each day we learn more about each of their individual puppies and what I can say right now is what an incredible temperament on the whole group. Kevin and I are really pleased.
We thought since Griffin has a dozen children right now - (he has out done Kevin and I :) that it might be fun to do a little montage of photo's of Griffin as puppy. His Mom Ginny was a LillyBits Mom but now she is retired and lives with a family friend, Margaret. We are blessed and so is Griffin because we dog sit Ginny once a week. So Griffin still visits with his Mom and we still adore having her here. We have so many videos on you tube now that I think my favorite of all time is buried. If you haven't already watched Ginny our talking dog video you really must, especially if you are getting a Griffin puppy from Bianca or Sophie. It is a crack up! Ginny is the grandmother to Bianca & Sophie's puppies.
Cheers,
Heather

Miss Sadie
Sadie is Maggie's daughter and she is about 13 weeks old. She looks so much like her Auntie Sophie with a straighter coat. Sadie is here at LillyBits with me and because she is a puppy in training she spends a good portion of her day by my side.
Sadie has been a reminder to me of all the little ways we can love a puppy into a few bad habits. With all my dog experience and all the little phone consults I do in our follow up care, I still managed to spoil Sadie!!
Sadie and I are now in puppy boot camp together, they don't call 12-16 wks old the terrible two's for nothing! Really, she is a sweet mild puppy with nothing but kisses. However, unintentionally I realized that when she sought attention I would give it - even if it involved her making some noise for that attention. Soon her seeking attention rolled into her demanding attention.
I made the classic mistake of rewarding Sadie with my attention and affection when she was displaying an undesirable behavior. So for the last week I have ignored Sadie when she whines for me and when I see her sitting nicely, patiently and in a submissive manner I praise her, pick her up and tell her what a good girl she is. By doing this I am teaching Sadie the kind of behavior that gets my affection. Affection is the biggest reward a puppy can receive. It took about three days of consistency to undo her bad habit and I am happy to report she is back to being an "Angelic Shichon Puppy".
So this week Sadie and I will work on Sit, & the all important: Wait. Actually, I do think I saw her with my shoe this morning... maybe I will add 'leave it' to the agenda!
Cheers,
Heather & Sadie

March 13, 2008,
Friday the 13th...
I am not normally suspicious, in fact it didn't even occur to me that today was Friday the 13th until I sat down to type the updated news. Well, my computer went kapoot today! That surely isn't very lucky :)I love technology when it is working but when it isn't, no fun at all.
I lost my new pictures I had taken and a video of Sophie's puppies. I redid the video and it is posted on the video page. For pictures I did a little reuse, recycle & renew. Above are pictures that have been on the site at one point but have since been taken down. I thought it might be nice for our out of town families to see our little nursery. The nursery is located in a busy area of the house just off our family room. Right now it is set up for intermediate litter box training and our Mom's have a cozy raised bed, and of course, food, water and toys. The nursery has been so nice because when the puppies are older they can use the whole area to romp, play, run through the tunnel, climb on the crawl & slide etc. All with little mess for me, thanks to their litter box skills :)
We also have a covered, enclosed outdoor play area for fresh air and safe play in addition to our backyard. Here is a link to a video of some of our LillyBits having a grand ole time in our little outdoor area - also situated just outside the family room sliding doors. Having the puppies so close to the hub of activity in our home is nice for them and also makes it easy for us to include them in our activities while they are with us.
We hope you enjoyed our little tour!
Cheers,
Heather
The Nursery is located off of our family room ~ door to the right
of our t.v.
Hannah loves to lay on the dog bed to watch t.v. & she always has lots of company.

I'll Take a Dozen of Those...
Bianca & Sophie's puppies are so much fun right now. All 12 puppies are approximately 6 weeks old and they are a going concern. They are having a blast and practicing their big dog skills. Trying out little barks, growls and my goodness WWF watchout because these puppies can wrestle. Eat well, play hard and sleep soundly - this pretty much sums up their day.
I am going to keep it short today, after all, I have puppies to play with:)
Cheers,
Heather

April Fools!
Today was fun - 12 puppies washed dryed, photographed and filmed! We had a great evening with all 12 little ones running around with full reign of the upstairs. I was amazed at how many puppies ran to the big litter box for potty. Sometimes I even WOW myself with our litter box training.
We have been adding pages to the site. Check out the new 'Whats Next?'tab on our menu. We have three new pages. The Just for Kids Corner of LillyBits is compliments of LillyBits very own Hannah. She is adding and building all the content herself. Hannah has explained to me that she is more in tuned with what kids will want on their very own corner of the website... thus the video games :)
To the left is the exercise pen the Decker/Canuel family found on Amazon. I had never seen it before but it certainly is handsome and aesthetics can be so important in homes. This makes a nice alternative to the wire exercise pens. As expected it is more expensive but maybe well worth it for some with the sturdy and attractive design it offers.

A Dog Gone Fun Day at the Park!
The weather in the Northwest has been so beautiful! We packed up our two canine teenagers and headed off to the dog park. We are so blessed to have an 80 acre off leash park. There are trails, play areas, water holes and lots of elbow room for mans best friend.
The dogs had a great time and so did we. Sophie and Bianca's puppies have almost all headed home with a few exceptions. Things have gotten suddenly quiet - we will miss our dozen puppies!
We still have two cuties available in Hanna's nursery :)
We are heading out of town until the 14th of April. Have a great Easter, we will.

Heather

Goodbye Cooper...
Today was an extra special day at LillyBits. Cooper's family flew out to Seattle to pick him up in person all the way from the windy city. Right before the Kim's arrived we took a few pictures of Bianca saying goodbye to her last puppy heading home. David, Cooper's new pack leader, is an accountant so Cooper stayed with us an extra week until busy tax season was over.
I am very attached to Cooper and it was hard to see him go.
Cooper and his sister Mini were very tiny newborn puppies and
required lots of extra care on my part. I hand fed Cooper and
his sister Mini for 10 days every two hours, and then supplemented
their feedings until they were three weeks old. I am so proud of
what happy, hardy and healthy puppies Mini and Cooper are now.
Seeing the Kim family in person with Cooper at my home made every two
a.m. feeding seem so worthwhile.

Empty Nest?
Right now there is only one word to describe the Edwards household: Change. Kevin and I have a lot of children. It has been a long time since I have had less than five children in the house. Suddenly with graduations and college plans, we will be down to two children in the home! Three more of our adult children are leaving the nest in the next two months. Thank goodness we have our dogs! Honestly, I am not sure I can even cook for four, I have been automatically doing double and even triple recipes for years now.
Angie my oldest daughter and my grandson Austin are the first to move, Gracie is Austin's dog. We didn't really plan it but without a doubt, Gracie chose Austin and Angie. Gracie will continue to be a part of LillyBits but she will have a change of address soon. Gracie is already missing Angie and Austin, and they miss her. Angie hasn't moved far, it seems most of the kids stay within a ten mile radius of Mom. (okay kids, are you reading this? 10 mile radius.)
I wanted to tell you about a dog toy. When the Coover family came to pick up Mu Shu they brought this toy for him. My dogs were in love with this toy immediately! They are called Good Cuz & Bad Cuz. They are annoyingly squeaky, but with how much the dogs loved them they are worth the annoyance! Also, for the good weather we purchased a Kangaroo Climber for our adults and for the outside doggie play yard. This is so much fun for them and they each have fun being 'King of Climber' by standing on the top platform and then running down the slide. I would like to thank my friend Dianne (she has one for her dogs) for suggesting this fun new structure. I love it when I find something that the adult dogs really enjoy.
Cheers,
Heather

Gracie's Little Bean
We had an exciting week here at LillyBits. First we got to see two of our puppies that are a little over four months old this week. Both Delilah Bean & Emmett came over to our house to get their very first grooms.
We were very happy to see them and they definitely remembered their first home. They were very good for me for their primping sessions and it was really nice to see their humans too!
Hanna's puppies are here at the house now and they are so cute, friendly and small! What a little group they are.
We took a day trip to Rockport, WA with Maggie and Bianca this past weekend. The dogs had a great time and so did the kids. What a beautiful drive on that part of the Cascade Loop.
I have two seniors graduating this June and it seems like summer is imminent. Here comes the sun... and not a moment to soon.
Cheers,
Heather

Gidget & Gracie's Playdate!
We spent a wonderful Saturday afternoon yesterday visiting with one of our puppies named Gidget and her owner Megan. Kevin and I really enjoy Megan and of course we were thrilled to see Gidget. It was so fun to see Gidget and her mom Gracie reunite. They definitely knew they were mother and daughter and boy does Gidget resemble Gracie. They romped and played and wrestled together.
Megan mentioned that Gidgets nails were getting long and sharp so of course Kevin got out the nail clippers and gave Gidget a nail trim. Gidget even played with Gracie's owner, my grandson Austin. Gracie picked the human who drops cheerios constantly to be her person - she is no dummy.
Megan was so happy, really sweet to see what a pair Megan & Gidget have become. What a blessing for us to know our little ones have great lives and homes. We took a little video of Gracie and Gidget playing. I will be posting on the video page. Gidget is definitely Gracie's little 'mini me'.
Cheers,
Heather

Meet Cayenne.
Kevin and I have an exciting announcement. We have added a new member to our 'pack'. Meet Cayenne, she is a beautiful Shih Tzu with amazing red color and a happy demeanor to match. She came to us with the name Cayenne and we think it fits her perfectly. We had to ask ourselves: "Cayenne like the pepper or the Porsche?" We decided the answer is both, red like the pepper and beautiful lines like the Porsche. Can you tell we are smitten? Cayenne is fitting right in and has already enjoyed a day at Marymoor park with Gracie. To the left are a few pictures of her at the park. She loved every dog and human she met. She even went swimming in the slough! Cayenne is full grown and we are hoping her little ones will arrive in late August.
If you are on the wait list we will be contacting you next week as we now have a good idea of when our upcoming summer/fall puppies are due. We are very excited to hear the sighs of new puppies again, their sweet puppy breath and of course that first tail wag.
Awww - How quickly we forget the sleepless nights, the mess and the litter box changes :)
If you live in the Seattle area - stay cool tomorrow, it is supposed to be a scorcher. Remember to keep plenty of cool water available for you and your dog. If your LillyBit is in full coat you might want to think about a comfy cool summer clip - it is about that time.
Cheers,
Heather

A VERY FULL HOUSE!!
The Federici family is spending the week on the Washington coast and their three LillyBits are spending a week getting back to their roots here in Bothell. We call them the three musketeers and they are so well behaved they are just a joy.
I have added and item to the shopping list - suggested by the Federici's. They are called Mellow Mut and contain calming natural ingredients such as chamomile & lavender. I call them Doggy Zen - I absolutely love them!

Heather

Summer Fun
I am finally updating the news page! This is long overdue :) We have just been having so much fun this summer that the weeks have flown by.
Hannah and I just got back from a long summer road trip to Canada. We had a great time.
Maggie & Savannah's puppies are doing so well. Savannah's pups are now old enough that they are getting backyard playtime every day. Since they are wee-bits it is so funny to seem them in the grass. Even when the grass is freshly mowed it seems like a jungle compared to their size.
Maggie's puppies are doing excellent with their litterbox training and are just such a sweet group of boys. We are really enjoying them.
I hope you are having as much fun this summer as we are :)
Also, for those who have been anxiously awaiting confirmation of Cayenne's pregnancy - she is indeed pregnant and we are looking so forward to her puppies in the beginning of August.
Cheers,
Heather

Heat Wave
It has been hot here in the Northwest. Finally, our record setting heat wave has come to an end.
We spent three days making sure the dogs were hydrated, comfortable and as cool as possible. Dogs can't sweat over most of their body and on top of it they are wearing a fur coat.
We set up shade areas and wading pools for our dogs and had tons of water available that we replenished with fresh water every two hours. Hannah and Chris took the dogs in the backyard for water play with the sprinkler about five times a day. Everyone had a blast!
As much as I LOVE the beautiful coat on our dogs, I took them all down to a buzz cut. After all, comfort and safety first. As each one was buzzed - you could tell afterward how they were more energetic despite the heat and thrilled to have that coat off!
We are delighted to have those 100 plus degree temperatures in our past.... I think all members of the family both human and canine breathed a sigh of relief when the temps finally returned to normal. Stay Cool.
Cheers,
Heather
Griffin is a happy and handsome dog! He and Sophie have puppies due at the end of August.

Homecoming week for puppies.
Maggie's and Savannah's puppies are in the process of heading to their forever homes. We are so happy for their families. One of our favorite things about LillyBits is all the wonderful families and people our little dogs have brought into our lives. We now have the biggest most diverse extended family you can imagine! Really special. We look forward to staying touch with all the new LillyBits families that are just starting their adventures with their pups.
Kevin's sister Lorene writes a wonderful blog on gardening called Planted at Home. Lorene was featured in the local paper as being the 'rock star'of the Seattle Garden Scene and we have to agree. She owned Fremont Gardens for many years and now has published two books as well as consulting work. Her recent blog entry is about dog friendly gardening and we thought we would share it with all of you. A very relevant subject here at LillyBits!
Cheers,
Heather
